Modern Slavery
Statement

Care Assist Ltd has zero tolerance for slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking, in our own services and in our supply chain.

We publish it because we believe the people we support and the people we employ deserve nothing less.

Why our risk is low, and where we stay alert

Our workforce is recruited directly, in the UK, and paid through our own payroll.

The people we support are adults who may be vulnerable, so we treat exploitation as a safeguarding issue as well as a legal one.

The areas we watch most closely are:
  • Recruitment of care workers, including any use of recruitment agencies, particularly for overseas candidates
  • Agency and temporary staffing
  • Suppliers of cleaning, maintenance, building works, catering and laundry services
  • Financial abuse or coercive control affecting the people we support

Our policies

Safer recruitment

We carry out right-to-work checks, enhanced DBS checks, identity checks, and references for every employee before they start work, as required by CQC regulations.

Fair employment

Every employee receives a written contract and is paid at least the National Living Wage. We do not retain passports or identity documents, and we do not charge recruitment fees to staff.

Safeguarding and whistleblowing

Our safeguarding and whistleblowing policies tell staff how to raise concerns about exploitation, in confidence and without fear of reprisal. Concerns about the people we support are reported to the local authority safeguarding team, and where appropriate to the police.

Equality and dignity

Our equality, diversity and inclusion policy and our person-centred approach to care protect the dignity and rights of both staff and the people we support.

Supply chain due diligence

We ask suppliers, recruitment agencies and subcontractors to confirm that they comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and employment law. Before we engage a new agency or contractor, we check their registration, references and right-to-work process. Where we find a concern, we raise it, and we end the relationship if it is not resolved.

Training and awareness

Managers and staff receive safeguarding training that includes the signs of modern slavery, trafficking and exploitation, and how to report them. We refresh this training regularly.

Our commitment

We will review this statement every year, keep our policies and supplier checks up to date, and cooperate fully with commissioners, regulators and law enforcement on any concern.
